Socrates to Sartre with Free Dictionary of Philosophical Terms Essay

it is good A elaborate and well-written expounding of selected doctrines in the Western Tradition. Not really comprehensive though, but a recommended primer to some of the major names and subjects in doctrine. I want to read one dont know I purchased this book for my first doctrine class and carried it with me all through college, mentioning to it when I had minutes of uncertainty and needed lucidity. I think it is one of the best books on doctrine. Such a helpful book for clear sum-ups of doctrines and their historical, cultural, and ideological contexts. And it truly does cover Socrates to Sartre, as the rubric says, which is convenient to hold all in one spare volume. I was introduced to this book at NSA, but it is turn outing its worth once more. My following grad school escapade is a thorough circuit of imaginativeness 's function in Hume, and as I have a more natural set toward poesy instead than doctrine, I will be cleaving to Stumpf 's manus through the peculiarly darker caves. qwe This is the best overview of western philosophers I 've come across. The sum-ups are clear and concise ; they hit all of the major subjects ; and they stay true to each philosopher 's organic structure of idea, without Stumpf come ining his ain critical rating. This book is great to take you through the full history of doctrine. Not merely is it a great instructor, but besides it serves as a comprehensive mention usher to peculiar philosophers, including accounts of the As a general text edition on Western doctrine, a good overview. Depth is sacrificed to cover so many schools of idea. There are some chapters on persons, when appropriate. I would utilize this text with undergraduates or some advanced high school pupils for a basic introductory class in Western doctrine. It is non intended to replace reading the major plants. One of the best nonfiction books I 've read or owned. This proved really helpful when taking college classs in logic and doctrine. It 's fundamentally an Angstrom to Z usher to great philosophers throughout human history and their thoughts that helped determine human cognition and scientific discipline. Bonus: it 's organized chronologically. This book has helped me last my first two university Philosophy courses. The book contains reasonably short subdivisions on assorted philosophers every bit good as comprehensive accounts of their doctrines and lives. It is a great addendum to the primary beginnings. Great history of doctrine mention book. The best text I of all time bought after college. Love the speedy mention usher on the interior covers -- front list philosophers alphabetically, back is chronologic. It was a splurge, but we 're surprised with how frequently we reach for it. I liked it... but, most people, Is do n't believe, would bask this book... it was a text edition that i truly enjoyed... so, there you have it... I have the paper-back book version but since they have n't the image of that yet, I 'm lodging to this one to assist me maintain path of my material. I got this dorsum when I took up doctrine. I still maintain it now along with my notes. They really have their ain bag.
