Book description:

A reassuring tale of how loving relationships that transcend time and generations are sustained through memories and stories. Jesse knows her two grandfathers only through the stories that her parents share. One died before she was born; the other lived long enough to visit her when she was a baby. When Jesse and her parents spend two weeks in the country, she is drawn to Daniel, an old man who carries a walking stick to guide him along as he walks. Together, Jesse, Daniel, and Daniel's walking stick hike through the woods, cross streams, and ascend hills. When Jesse returns to the city with her parents she has her own walking stick and memories of the summer she spent with her third grandfather. In gentle, lyrical language, Wendy McCormick offers young readers a satisfying story that pays tribute to the power of stories to connect generations and create bonds of enduring love that transcend familial ties. Illustrator Constance R. Begum's soft, delicate watercolors capture the gentle tone of the story and bring the endearing characters to life.

Daniel and His Walking Stick Essay

Jesse adopts a grandfather as she has none alive! McCormick, Wendy, and Constance Rummel Bergum. Daniel and His Walking Stick. Atlanta, GA: Peachtree, 2005. Print. Ages 8-10. Daniel and his walking stick is a great narrative of Jesse, who is a immature miss and an older gramps, who goes by the name of Daniel. This adult male, Daniel reminds Jesse 's parents of their parents so Jesse gets to cognize Daniel because they come near and get down to travel fishing and walking together. This book I truly liked because I was able to associate to this because it truly reminded me of my grandfather, because he normally had a walking stick wherever I would travel with him and it brought back memories of traveling angling with him and it was ever a great clip. It was a sweet narrative of Jesse cleaving to an old adult male. It reminded me of my grandfather so it touched me because he died a twelvemonth ago. The illistrations in this book were astonishing. The chief character in this book does n't hold any life grampss. When her and her household travel on a holiday she meets a friend of her grandfather 's, and she realizes that even though they are n't really related this does n't intend that he ca n't be her grandfather. A feel good short narrative that would be great to read in any schoolroom. This book is about a small miss that ne'er met one of her grandfather and the other she doesnt truly retrieve becasue he died when she was really immature. She goes to the state with her household and finds a adult male that knew her grandfather and falls inlove with him. He accepts him as her grandfather and I feel like it made her life complete. Good narrative to portion with kids who have lost a grandparent or loved one ; Although these darling people can be replaced, particular times can be shared with other people. The importance of retrieving loved 1s is a focal point of this narrative. Gentle narrative with beautiful illustrations. Daniel fills the nothingness in a small miss 's life where her grampss had passed off. This was a sweet and soft narrative about household and developing new relationships. It is besides aabout happening household in unexpected people and ways. Jesse and her household travel on a household holiday to the state to live over old memories. This narrative is a great read for kids to associate to -- if they have besides lost grandparents, or have been on a trip to the state. The narrative is heartwarming and makes kids inquire about doing new friends and larning things from aged people who have a batch to state. Daniel is a immense influence to Jesse, and she learns a batch about nature from him. She enjoys his company so much, that she would wish to follow him as her gramps! From School Library Journal:
