Ain't I a Woman! A Book of Women's Poetry From Around the World Essay

This aggregation of verse form is a worthwhile read. I gave it merely a 3 star evaluation because so many of the verse forms were dark and put offing. As a adult female, I have experienced the dark yearss but life is besides full of good times. I felt the aggregation could hold better reflected life as a whole for adult females. Can I acquire more than five stars, delight? This book is so good I want to border every page and set it on the wall so I can read it once more and once more. The verse forms are by adult females from every state, immature, old and deceased. Many are translated from other linguistic communications. But are so dead-on about adult females 's lives and so powerful. The book is n't new, and the page are xanthous in my used transcript, but I still want to give it at least 12 stars. I enjoyed the verse forms from different people and in a broad span of old ages. Great insight! I recommend it. It was all right. I normally read these books a bit each month. a start in january and take every bit long as necessary to complete. love being able to pick and take the verse forms that fit my temper when I pick up the book one time once more. My first book of poesy turns out all right! I like this aggregation - I would love to see it on phase. Some of my favourite poems/poets are represented here. Turns out a love/sex/angst verse form written by a Cuban adult female is no different to one written by a Nipponese adult female, nor American adult female. The romanticiztion of anything is arrant tripe, so I truly do n't cognize what I expected. There were nice, disconnected verse form here and at that place that did motivate me to maintain turning the page. However, I was mostly unaffected by the anthology, salvage for Margaret Atwood 's splanchnic, seize with teething verse form, titled, A Woman 's Issue. Some great poesy about the phases and seasons of a adult female 's life. I liked the assortment from around the universe and through clip. From Maya Angelous to Sappho, from Yolando Ulloa ( Cuba ) to Suniti Namjoshi ( India ) , this book contains powerful Hagiographas by adult females and about adult females, both within the place, within the civilizations, within the universe. This book has its roots in the theater, and in Sojourner Truth 's celebrated address of 1852. A love missive to Samson from Delila ( by Carole Gregory ) epitomizes the tone of this book: strong, dare, and happening wit where one can. Poetry readers will love it, immature grownup adult females will bask it! This is one of my favourite poesy aggregations about adult females collected from all backgrounds, cultues, faiths. Most reflect on the battles of adult females within household and community. I go back to this aggregation frequently. I used one of these verse forms at my girl 's funeral. A really cultural diverse aggregation. What I 'm most pleased about is I saw a show of Page Poetry at the Leonardo Museum the hebdomad earlier, where you make your ain Poetry from whatever words hidden in the text speak to you. I pulled several pages from this book and have already started making my poesy art. It was the perfect book to make this with. A aggregation of verse forms non merely written by adult females from around the universe but by adult females from different epochs. The rubric comes from a address of the ex-slave and abolitionist Sojourner Truth. Geting in touch with my sisters and sistahs! The creativeness is reviewing every bit is the spring of emotion! And I 'm merely midway through the aggregation! Unique exchange between adult females of many races, confirming their differences and what they have in common... I was moved beyond belief, in many different waies. A fantastic aggregation of verse forms written by adult females through the ages, in many different states and sing different walks of life. Jenny Joseph – warning ( 1 ) Beautiful poesy embracing all emotions from adult females of all ages and throughout the universe. Absolutely charming. I love giving this book as a gift. Most people who are traveling to happen this book likely have at least a cursory background in women/race/class surveies, and I do n't believe this book 's poems offers many new positions from those Fieldss. However, what this book does offer is a overplus of fantastic voices and words from around the universe showing thoughts about those Fieldss in peculiar relation to the adult female experience. Originally created for a one-woman-show ( and I think utile to present performing artists ) , the verse forms, over 150 of them, are by and large organized by chronological subject: from young person to old age. It besides lists short lifes of the 90+ subscribers. This started with such promise. Well this book was a aggregation of verse forms from adult females around the universe fundamentally stating their narratives, their personal sentiments, and grudges with the universe. Each clip I pick this book up, different verse forms speak to me. It 's the best thing to maintain by your bed for insomniac darks! This anthology has many verse forms to make full the adult females author demand for the pupils making Mr. Wood 's anthology undertaking.
